history

The city of Königsee-Rottenbach was created on December 31, 2012 through the merger of the previously independent city of Königsee with the municipality of Rottenbach . The name was changed to "Königsee" on January 1, 2019 with the incorporation of Dröbischau and Oberhain . Since then, Königsee has also been a fulfilling community for Allendorf and Bechstedt .

mayor

In the first mayoral election after the new community was founded, Volker Stein, who was not part of the party, won the second ballot on April 28, 2013 with 53.8% of the valid votes cast. In the election on March 31, 2019, Marco Waschkowski (independent) won the first ballot with 51.9% of the valid votes cast. He took office on May 1, 2019.

Town twinning

The twin cities of Königsee are Erbach (Odenwald) in Hesse and Hirson in the French region of Hauts-de-France .

City friendships are cultivated with Ansião in Portugal, Jičín in the Czech Republic and Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin (Isère) in France, who in turn are siblings with Erbach, and with Nagykanizsa in Hungary, which is also Hirson's twin town; friendly relations also exist with Pulheim near Cologne.

Königsee lies with the Rottenbach and Paulinzella railway stations on the Arnstadt – Saalfeld railway line . Furthermore, the Schwarzatalbahn branches off in the Rottenbach district . The Köditzberg – Königsee railway line , however, has been closed.
