Kałmy ( German  Kollmen ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the Gmina Korsze ( urban and rural municipality Korschen ) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Kałmy is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship on the northern outskirts of Korsze ( German  Korschen ), 18 kilometers northwest of the district town of Kętrzyn (Rastenburg) .

history

The place called Colmen after 1785 and Collmen after 1871 consisted of an estate and several farmsteads before 1945. In 1883 he was on the list of places in District Korschen ( Polish Korsze ) called the for loop Rastenburg in the administrative district of Kaliningrad in the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged. On February 2, 1921, the Collmen manor district was incorporated into the Korschen community.

When all of southern East Prussia fell to Poland in 1945 as a result of the war , Kollmen was also affected. The place received the Polish form of the name "Kałmy" and is today a village belonging to Piaskowiec (Sandenberg) . As such, it lies in the area of ​​the urban and rural municipality of Korsze (Korschen) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 of the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Until 1945, Kollmen was parish in the Protestant Church of Korschen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church of Korschen in what was then the Diocese of Warmia .

Today there is still a connection to Korsze from the Catholic side , but now part of the Archdiocese of Warmia . The Protestant residents orientate themselves towards the parish of Kętrzyn in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Kałmy is located on the important Voivodship Road 590 , which connects the regions of Barciany ( German  Barten ) , Korsze (Korschen) , Reszel (Rößel) and Biskupiec (Bishop's Castle) . There is also a side road from Piaskowiec (Sandenberg) directly to Kałmy.

The nearest train station is Korsze with the lines ending here: the Białystok – Głomno line and the Toruń – Chernyakhovsk line .
