Kowalewo Duże ( German  Wotterkeim , Vorwerk ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Korsze ( urban and rural municipality Korschen ) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Geographical location

Kowalewo Duże is located in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 22 kilometers northwest of the district town of Kętrzyn ( German  Rastenburg ).

history

The Vorwerk Wotterkeim was a residential area within the estate district of Langheim ( Polish Łankiejmy ) in the district of Rastenburg in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . On September 30, 1928, it was reclassified from the Langheim manor in the rural community Wotterkeim (Polish Kowalewo Małe ).

In 1945 the Vorwerk Wotterkeim was in consequence of the war with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland handed over and received the Polish form of the name "Kowalewo Duże". Today it is a village with the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) in the network of the urban and rural community Korsze (Korschen) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship . In 2011 Kowalewo Duże had 67 inhabitants.

Until 1945, the Vorwerk Wotterkeim was parish in the Protestant Church Langheim ( Polish Łankiejmy ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church Korschen (Polish Korsze ) in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today Kowalewo Duże belongs to the Catholic parish Łankiejmy in the current Archdiocese of Warmia and to the Protestant parish Kętrzyn (Rastenburg) with the branch church Bartoszyce (Bartenstein) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Kowalewo Duże is located on a side road that leads from Grzęda ( German  Sturmhübel ) via Łabławki (Lablack) to here and after only one kilometer joins the 592 Voivodship Road . There is no connection to rail traffic .
