history

Local history

In 1359 Winrich von Kniprode located the village. The localization was renewed in 1409 and the area was given as 13 hooves. In 1834 a Mr. Göbel acquired several localities in the area, including Glitajny . Previously, the place was owned by the Knoblauch family or von Oelsens .

According to a list, there were ten residential buildings in the village in 1785; in 1817 there were 17 buildings with 82 inhabitants. In 1853 or 1883 the estate passed into the possession of the von Skopnik family through marriage .

The last private owner of the estate was Maximilian von Skopnik . After the place became part of Poland, the manor house was used as a warehouse for grain and sugar beet, but fell into disrepair until 1954, so that nothing can be seen of it today. The small cemetery of Skopnik Mariens Ruh can also no longer be seen . On it were Ernst Carl Ferdinand († 1873), Artur Carl Ferdinand († July 26, 1873), Maximilian Carl Ferdinand sen. († February 17, 1894) and Gertruda Charlotta Luisa Joanna († February 17, 1896) are buried. The cemetery was destroyed around 1947.

In 1874 Glittehnen was incorporated into the newly established Korschen district (in Polish: Korsze ). It existed until 1945 and was part of the county Rastenburg in the administrative district of Kaliningrad in the Prussian province of East Prussia . On September 30, 1928, the Glittehnen manor district lost its independence when it merged with the neighboring Karschau manor district ( Karszewo in Polish ) to form the new rural community Karschau.

As a result of the war, Glittehnen came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and received the Polish form of the name “Glitajny”. Today the village is part of the municipality of Korsze (Korschen) in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn Voivodeship , since then it belongs to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

In 1970 there were 341 people in Glitajny. There was a kindergarten attended by 29 children and a library point. In 1973 the estate became part of the Wiklewo Schulzenamt (Groß Winkeldorf) in the municipality of Korsze. In 1983 the population had dropped to 58. The survey of October 8, 2004 showed 396 inhabitants.

Place name

Originally the place was called Gliteinai . The place name comes from the pruzzischen word glitus what smooth means.

Until 1945 Glittehnen was parish in the Evangelical Church of Korschen in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church Sturmhübel ( Polish: Grzęda ) in the then diocese of Warmia .
