The canton of Saint-Martin-de-Ré was 2015 a French canton in the department of Charente-Maritime and in the former region Poitou-Charentes . It comprised five parishes on the island of Ré in the arrondissement of La Rochelle ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Saint-Martin-de-Ré . The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015. The last representative in the conseil général des Départements for the years 1985–2015 was Léon Gendre, mayor of the municipality of La Flotte .
