The 100-meter race of the men at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics was on 5 and 6 August 2001 Commonwealth Stadium the Canadian city of Edmonton held.
In this competition, the US sprinters scored a double victory.
His third World Cup -Titel in a row won the Olympic champion in 2000 and world record holder Maurice Greene , who also in 1999 about 200 meters was world champion and the 4 x 100-meter relay his country's 1999 World Cup had won -Gold and 2000 Olympic gold. Bernard Williams , who, like Maurice Greene, was a member of the US sprint relay that had won the Olympic Games the year before, came
second .
Bronze went to the World Cup third in 1995 , Olympic third in 1996 and Olympic second in 2000 Ato Boldon from Trinidad and Tobago , who was also world champion over 200 meters in 1997 and Olympic third in 1996 and 2000. Here in Edmonton he won the silver medal on the final day with the 4 x 100 meter relay of his country.

doping
In 2008, the multiple medalist, world champion and Olympic champion confessed to long-term use of banned substances such as testosterone and somatropin while in prison where he was for check fraud and money laundering . His affected results were all canceled, here at these world championships his races over 100 meters with the silver medal he had initially won and the victory in his country's 4 x 100 meter relay .
Four sprinters were primarily affected :
- Ato Boldon , Trinidad and Tobago - He received his bronze medal a long time late and was unable to attend the award ceremony.
- Uchenna Emedolu , Nigeria - He was denied the final from his fourth place in the second semi-final run.
- Aham Okeke , Norway - He should have made it to the semi-finals through his quarter-finals.
- Akihiro Yasui , Japan - He should have started in the quarterfinals via the time rule.
Preliminary round
The preliminary round was carried out in eleven runs. The first three athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the seven fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the quarter-finals.
