Detailed memorial texts

  1. The tenement building Weimarien Straße 1 in Dresden, OT Stadt Neudorf , which was built at the end of the 19th century, i.e. during the late phase of the Wilhelminian era, appears as a clinker brick building typical of the time. Its historicizing facade is attractively designed. Ornamental and structural elements such as balconies as well as highlighted window coverings and frames enliven the four-story building. Sandstone cladding and cuboids left in bosses (possibly plastered) give the ground floor the weight of a plinth. The design effort described, which is characterized by the imitation of earlier styles with their elements (on the house, among other things, architraved walls = renaissance and mansard roof = baroque ), hence the concept of style in historicism , formed an essential facet of architecture before 1900. This fact results the historical significance of the house at Weimar Straße 1 in Dresden. Apart from the striking facade that has been preserved, there are important parts of the original interior, particularly in the entrance area, such as four large-format wall paintings, two narrow friezes under the cove, stucco valleys, a ceiling pavement with a peacock representation and a tiled floor. These are definitely artistically significant. In addition to its testimonial value for the architecture shortly before 1900 and the artificial value of the entrance fittings, the object to be assessed here documents the gradual urbanization of OT Neudorf during the 19th century in connection with the surrounding buildings and is therefore also of importance in terms of urban development history. The public interest in the preservation of the building at Weimarien Straße 1 results primarily from its exemplary value for the architecture of historicism, especially between 1850 and 1900 and during the Wilhelminian era, and from the fact that such buildings are registered nationwide as monuments and now also by be accepted as such by large parts of the population.
