List of organs in the district of Wittmund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of organs in the district of Wittmund includes all pipe organs preserved in the district of Wittmund ( East Friesland ). It is a supplement to the main article Organ Landscape Ostfriesland , in which further literature can be found.

The district has 36 organs, 21 of which were built before 1900. Mostly there are single-manual small village organs; only ten instruments have two manuals . The organ in Buttforde from 1681 is the oldest in the district and the only surviving work by Joachim Richborn . In the 18th century, organ builders from abroad such as Christian Klausing and Hinrich Just Müller imparted Westphalian influence on the region. The organs of the 19th century can be traced back almost exclusively to the two competing East Frisian organ building families of Gerd Sieben Janssen and Johann Gottfried Rohlfs . Arnold Rohlfs ' organ in St. Magnus Church in Esens (1860) is the largest organ in the district with 30  stops . After the Second World War , Alfred Führer from nearby Wilhelmshaven significantly shaped the organ region with ten new buildings.

List of organs

The main builders are given in the fourth column; Cooperation between several organ builders is indicated by a slash, later modifications by commas. In the sixth column, the Roman number indicates the number of manuals , a capital "P" indicates an independent pedal , a lower-case "p" indicates an attached pedal, and the Arabic number indicates the number of sounding registers. The penultimate column lists the last major restoration. Preserved historical cases (with modern organs) are indicated in italics.
