List of organs in the district of Giessen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of organs in the district of Gießen includes all pipe organs preserved in the district of Gießen ( Central Hesse ). It is a supplement to the main article Organ Landscape Hessen , in which further literature can be found.

Of the more than 150 instruments in the district, 56 are more than 100 years old. The oldest organ goes back to Georg Wagner (1624), of which the prospectus and five registers in the Licher Marienstiftskirche have been preserved. In the Evangelical City Church of Laubach there is a baroque organ, which the Thuringian organ builders Johann Casper Beck and Johann Michael Wagner completed in 1751. As her journeyman, Johann Andreas Heinemann played a key role in the new construction and created organs in Kirchberg (Lahn) (1778) and Freienseen (1797, attribution). The 19th century was shaped by the competing organ builder Johann Georg Förster , of whom 17 organs have been preserved, and the organ builder family Johann Hartmann Bernhard with a total of twelve instruments, the 20th century largely dominated by Förster & Nicolaus Orgelbau . More than 50 organs from the Lich company can be heard in the district of Gießen.

Organ list

The main builders are listed in the fifth column; Cooperation between several organ builders is indicated by a slash, later modifications by commas. In the seventh column, the Roman number indicates the number of manuals , a capital "P" indicates an independent pedal , a lower-case "p" indicates an attached pedal and the Arabic number in the penultimate column indicates the number of sounding registers.
