List of organs in Hamburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the list of organs in Hamburg , all preserved organs of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg are successively recorded. It complements the main article Hamburg Organ Landscape , where further literature can be found.

In Hamburg there are around 325 pipe organs in around 290 buildings: in churches, parish halls and chapels, concert halls, schools and universities, prisons and private houses. Some buildings have multiple organs. Only ten instruments that were built before 1870 have survived (at least in part). Among them, the instruments by Arp Schnitger are of particular importance. Often old organs were replaced by new ones or were lost due to catastrophes and wars.

The main builders are given in the fourth column; Cooperation between several organ builders is indicated by a slash, later modifications by commas. In the sixth column, the Roman number indicates the number of manuals , a capital "P" indicates an independent pedal , and a lower-case "p" indicates a pedal that is only attached. The Arabic number indicates the number of sounding registers in today's organs (as of 2019). The last column provides information on the state of preservation and links with further information.
