List of hail and fire processions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Places where hail or fire processions take place or have taken place are listed.

Hail processions

In Bavaria the hail processions are also called shower procession .

This list includes the passages known locally as the “Great Procession”. In the course of the Catholic Enlightenment towards the end of the 18th century, the number of pilgrimages and processions was restricted in many places. In the diocese of Münster, for example, the bishop limited the number of processions in the parishes to one per year, only in exceptional cases two. In addition to the Corpus Christi procession , another "to avert the fire, hailstorm, bad growth, etc." take place on the third Sunday after Trinity . It is therefore assumed that the “Great Processions” in many places follow the tradition of the hail processions.

The hail celebration on St. John's day seems to have originally taken place in processions on the three Fridays before St. John's day after a Holy Mass in the parish church; however, it is also possible that mass was celebrated at the destination after the procession. @1@ 2Template: Webachiv / IABot / www.jahrbuch-daun.de
