Maillé is a French municipality with 578 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Chinon and the canton of Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine . The inhabitants are called Maillaciens .

geography

Maillé is about 40 kilometers south-southwest of Tours . Neighboring municipalities of Maillé are Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine in the north, Draché in the east and northeast, La Celle-Saint-Avant in the south and southeast, Nouâtre in the west and southwest and Pouzay in the northwest.

The A10 autoroute runs through the municipality .

history

On August 25, 1944, German soldiers of the 17th Panzer Grenadier Division Götz von Berlichingen committed a war crime against the local population. In the Maillé massacre , 124 of the villagers, around a third of whom were children under the age of 12, were murdered.
