Huismes is a French commune in the Region Center-Val de Loire in Indre-et-Loire in Arrondissement Chinon and in the canton of Chinon .

The municipality covers 23.82 square kilometers at 31 to 118 m above sea level and has 1475 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It is located six kilometers from Chinon .

The municipality is part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park .

Personalities

  • The painter, collage artist and sculptor Max Ernst lived here with his wife, the American painter Dorothea geb. Tanning , at “Le Pin Perdu” from 1955 to 1963, before moving to Seillans . During these years he created, among other things, the “Max Ernst Fountain” in Amboise . The “Maison Max Ernst” museum dedicated to the artist has existed since 2009.
