Morangis ( moʁɑʒis ) is a French municipality with 13,729 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . The inhabitants are called Morangissois .
geography
The municipality of Morangis is about 18 kilometers south of Paris and borders the Hauts-de-Seine (to the west) and Val-de-Marne (to the north) departments. The neighboring communities are Wissous in the north, Paray-Vieille-Poste in the north-east and east, Savigny-sur-Orge in the south and south-east, Longjumeau in the south-west, Chilly-Mazarin in the west and north-west. A small part of Paris-Orly Airport is in the municipal area.
history
The village was named Louans in the year it was first mentioned in 1175. The first church was built in the 13th century. In 1693 the place was renamed Morangis. However, the Château de Louans was built in 1701.
