- April 7 : The Missa Solemnis by Ludwig van Beethoven for the first time and in full in oratory at the Philharmonic Society in St. Petersburg listed.
Instrumental and vocal music (selection)
Ludwig van Beethoven : The completely deaf composer conducts the world premiere of his 9th symphony on May 7th together with Michael Umlauf in the Theater am Kärntnertor in Vienna . The vocal parts are performed by Henriette Sontag (soprano), Caroline Unger (alto), Anton Haizinger (tenor) and Joseph Seipelt (baritone). The work provokes frenetic cheers from the audience. - September 29th : World premiere of the opera Alessandro nell'Indie by Giovanni Pacini at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. This is a material from the early 18th century that has already been set to music by many other composers.
