Narail (district)

Narail ( Bengali : নড়াইল জেলা , Naṛāil jelā ) is an administrative district in the central southwest of Bangladesh . The district lies within the superordinate administrative unit Khulna .

The 990.23 km² district borders on the Magura district in the north, the Faridpur and Gopalganj districts in the east, Khulna in the south and the Jessore district in the west .

The largest rivers are the Madhumati , Nabaganga , Bhairab , Chitra and Kajla .

The Narail district, created in 1984, is divided into the three Upazilas Narail Sadar, Kalia and Lohagara. Within this administrative division there are 37 Union Parishads (village councils), 649 villages and two municipalities.

Around 40,000 people live in the district capital of Narail .
