Not a Second Time was recorded on September 11, 1963 in London's Abbey Road Studios (Studio 2) with producer George Martin . Norman Smith was the sound engineer for the recordings. The band recorded a total of five takes , with the fifth take being used for the final version. Another four takes were recorded for overdubs.

The song was mixed in mono on September 30, 1963 and in stereo on October 29 .

On November 12, 1963, the first Beatles album With the Beatles appeared in Germany on the Not a Second Time is included. In Great Britain the album was released on November 22, 1963, there it was the second Beatles album.

In the USA, Not a Second Time was featured on their second album Meet the Beatles! published on January 20, 1964.
