The Nottingham Trent University (NTU) (English: Nottingham Trent University ) is a public university in Nottingham , England .

The roots of the university go back to 1843. It was founded in 1970 as Trent Polytechnic before it got its university status in 1992. The university is one of the largest new universities in the UK with over 27,000 students.

The university is spread over four locations in and around Nottingham: The main campus in the north of the city center, which houses business administration, law, architecture, design, social sciences and journalism, and the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies , which is also centrally located on the south-western outskirts The Clifton Campus, home to science, computer science, physical education, and the humanities, and the Brackenhurst Campus east of Nottingham, home to agriculture, animal and environmental sciences.

The university reached 16th place in the National Guardian 2019 ranking and 42nd place in the Complete University Guide . It was named Times Higher Education University of the Year 2017 and Modern University of the Year 2018 by the Sunday Times .

The research is bundled into five main themes: “Sustainable Future”, “Security for Citizens and Society”, “Medical Technologies and New Materials”, “World Heritage: Science, Management and Development” and “Health and Wellbeing”. In 2015 the university received the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for its research .
