The Porsche Panamera is a hatchback of the upper class with front engine , the Porsche has been producing since mid-2009.

The name “Panamera”, like the additional name “ Carrera ” for different versions of the Porsche 356 or the Porsche 911 , is derived from the Mexican endurance race Carrera Panamericana . Internally it is carried under the production name Porsche 970 or the development abbreviation G1 .

On June 28, 2016, Porsche presented the second generation of the Panamera ( Porsche 971 ) at the motor plant in Berlin . Models with all-wheel drive and three different engines were presented. On March 2, 2017, a shooting brake based on the second generation was presented with the Sport Turismo .

The first generation of the Panamera premiered at Auto Shanghai in 2009. It has been available in Europe, South America and parts of Asia since September 12 of the same year, followed by North America and Australia in October 2009. It has been on the market in China since spring 2010.

The Gran Turismo Panamera has been in production since June 2009. The vehicle platform was developed by Porsche alone. The car is manufactured in cooperation with Volkswagen AG : every day around 140 body shells (January 2012) for the Panamera are manufactured and painted at the Volkswagen plant in Hanover , transported to the Porsche plant in Leipzig and final assembly there.

Porsche anticipated development costs of less than one billion euros, which should be achieved through synergy effects with existing models. It was planned to sell 20,000 copies in the first year of sales. Porsche wanted to create around 1200 new jobs in Germany.

To save weight, the bonnet, doors, front fenders and the wide-opening tailgate are made of aluminum. Initially, the car had the V8 naturally aspirated and turbo engines from the Porsche Cayenne . V6 petrol engines (April 2010) and a hybrid drive were added later . The current engines with direct injection produce between 220 and 405 kW. The Panamera S Hybrid presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011 has a 70 kilogram nickel-metal hydride battery under the trunk floor. The power electronics are located under the left headlight and generate a three-phase alternating current from the 288-volt direct current , which supplies the hybrid module ( three-phase electric motor ) between the gearbox and the combustion engine. The system is able to switch between the internal combustion engine, a supercharged V6 TFSI engine from Audi, and the electric motor, and to operate both types of drive in combination. It has a total output of 279 kW (380 PS) - 34 kW (47 PS) of this is attributable to the electric motor.

In mid-2011 the Porsche Panamera got a diesel engine with 184 kW (250 PS), which is almost the same as the 3.0 TDI quattro of the Audi A8 . Since January 2014 it has been delivered in a version that has been boosted to 221 kW (300 PS).

Facelift

A revised Panamera, which was delivered between July 2013 and mid-2016, was presented at Auto Shanghai 2013. Together with the facelift, a variant longer by 15 centimeters appeared. The decision to replace the V8 engines previously used in the Panamera S and 4S with a double-charged V6 engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters in order to achieve lower emissions caused controversy among fans of the brand.

Panamera S E-Hybrid PHEV

As part of the Panamera facelift in 2013, Porsche announced the introduction of a plug-in hybrid model , the Panamera S E-Hybrid. The plug-in version was presented at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2013. The S E-Hybrid is powered by a 71 kW (95 PS) 288 V electric motor and a 3-liter V6 supercharged TFSI petrol engine with a total system output of 310 kW (416 PS). The top speed in fully electric mode is 135 km / h, and acceleration from 0-100 km / h takes 5.5 seconds. The electric plug-in hybrid has a 9.4 kWh lithium-ion battery , which enables a range of more than 32 km according to the new European driving cycle (NEDC). The battery can be fully charged in approx. 2½ hours on a 240 V power source. According to the standard, the Panamera plug-in hybrid consumes 3.1 liters of premium gasoline per 100 km. This corresponds to CO ₂ emissions of 71 g / km.

The special equipment includes a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, automatic start-stop, all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension , roll stabilization Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), cornering lights, a Bose or Burmester music system, leather upholstery, an Alcantara headliner, a metallic Paintwork, ceramic brakes, a cooling compartment in the rear, illuminated door sill guards made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and an electrically retractable trailer coupling . In addition, from the facelift onwards, LED headlights with cornering light functions are also available for an extra charge. Depending on the engine, some equipment features are available at no extra cost.

Others

The trunk has a volume of 445 liters. After folding down the seats, 1250 liters are available.

Series production of the Panamera began on April 8, 2009; When production started, Porsche planned an annual production of around 20,000 cars. In fact, 20,600 Panamera were sold in the first ten months.

Three Panamera S E-Hybrids are used as police vehicles in Dubai .

The second generation of the Panamera is the first vehicle to be based on the new MSB (modular standard drive system ) developed by the VW Group . Porsche presented it to the public on June 28, 2016 at the Motorwerk in Berlin . Production now takes place entirely in Leipzig . A new body shop was built for this. The new Panamera has been available from dealers since November 2016 at prices starting at € 107,553. Initially, the second generation was offered with two gasoline engines and a four-liter V8 diesel engine, which is also used in a similar way in the Audi SQ7 , and all-wheel drive . All three engines are charged twice. At the LA Auto Show in November 2016, Porsche presented the second-generation Executive long version . As with the previous model, this is 15 centimeters longer. In addition, a new basic version was presented. This is powered by a three-liter V6 petrol engine, is also available with rear-wheel drive and costs from € 88,989.

In mid-August 2017, Porsche took the diesel variant off the market. As a reason, the manufacturer initially gave additional checks in order to further expand the quality standards of the brand in the interests of the customers. In February 2018, Porsche stopped production of all of its diesel models. This means that the Panamera will no longer be offered with a diesel engine.

Panamera 4 E-Hybrid

In autumn 2016, Porsche presented the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid at the Paris Motor Show .

The petrol engine used is the 2.9-liter V6 biturbo familiar from the 4S, but the plug-in hybrid version only produces 243 kW (333 hp).

Supplemented by a 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid then achieves a total output of 340 kW (462 PS), which accelerates it to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. The top speed is 278 km / h, the electric range is 50 km from Porsche.

As with the Porsche 918 , the bright green nameplates and brake callipers are optically characteristic .

The plug-in hybrid has been delivered since April 2017.

Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

At the Geneva Motor Show 2017 Porsche presented the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The 404 kW (550 PS) gasoline engine comes from the Panamera Turbo, the 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor from the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

With a system output of 500 kW (680 PS), the model is currently the second most powerful Porsche model (as of September 19, 2017).

The plug-in hybrid went on sale in July 2017.

Panamera Sport Turismo

On March 2, 2017, Porsche showed the first pictures of the Panamera Sport Turismo. This had its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2017 and came to dealerships on October 7, 2017 at prices from € 97,557. The Sport Turismo is a shooting brake based on the station wagon of the same length. It differs from this one by a loading sill that is 143 mm lower, a larger trunk and the five-seater version. The Sport Turismo will initially be offered with five engines from the station wagon. The rear-wheel drive Panamera is initially withheld from the hatchback.

At the Paris Motor Show 2012, Porsche showed a Shooting Brake designed as a study based on the first Panamera generation.

In 2017 Sport Turismo won the Golden Steering Wheel in the Sports Car category .

Trivia

Until the introduction of the Alpina D5 S at the end of 2017, the Panamera 4S Diesel was the fastest diesel vehicle available in the world with a top speed of 285 km / h. In addition, this is the most powerful diesel engine Porsche has ever built in series.
In June 2016, the Panamera Turbo lapped the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in 7:38 minutes. This made it the fastest luxury sedan on this racetrack until the time of an Alfa Romeo Giulia (952) was beaten by 7:32 minutes in September 2016.
The rappers Bushido and Shindy released the song Panamera Flow in March 2013 , in which the luxury of the Porsche Panamera is glorified.

Registration numbers

Since the market launch up to and including December 2019, a total of 29,442 Panamera have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2017 was the most successful sales year with 3,977 units.
