Location and economy

The municipality is located a little east of the cities of Delft , The Hague and Voorburg . The Hague motorway junction, Prins Clausplein, notorious for its traffic jams, is very close to Nootdorp, which also has an exit itself.

Pijnacker has a small train station on the east of the two railway lines The Hague - Rotterdam . Nootdorp and Pijnacker (2) have a total of three stops on the so-called RandstadRail , a high-speed S-Bahn in the The Hague / Rotterdam region opened in 2007. Until 2009 you can reach The Hague with this train, but not Rotterdam yet.

Pijnacker-Nootdorp can be described as a commuter community ; most of the apartments were built after 1975. Delfgauw is a suburb of Delft, the other two places are suburbs of The Hague. The number of inhabitants is expected to rise to around 64,000 by 2020 because more new districts are planned. There are plenty of parks and sports facilities, shopping centers, schools, etc. for the residents. Agriculture, which was once so important in the municipality, has declined sharply. The industrial areas provide space for offices, trade and other service companies and small businesses.

history

Nootdorp was created around 1280 when the Count of Holland Floris V sold the moorland for reclamation . The name should either be related to not, nut = benefit, or nood = need, need: in the past, peat was cut here , a useful product that was in great demand.

Delfgauw arose on a sand ridge, and Pijnacker around 1222 on a higher clay layer in the low moor.

All three of these places were not very important farming villages until after the Second World War.
