The 2013/14 season was the 58th season of the Ekstraliga , the highest Polish ice hockey division , and the 79th edition of the Polish ice hockey championship. The KH Sanok became champion for the second time after 2012 .

mode

In the main round, each of the nine teams played a total of 48 games, i.e. three home and three away games against each competitor. The top eight teams qualified for the playoffs in which the champions were played out. The bottom of the table Podhale Nowy Targ should actually have been relegated to the second class I league , but could remain in the Ekstraliga due to the financially-related elimination of the KTH Krynica . The two losers in the semi-finals played out third place. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime or shootout, one point for a defeat after overtime or shootout and zero points for a defeat after regular time.

particularities

On December 2, 2013, the licensing committee of the Polish Ice Hockey Association initiated proceedings against the KTH Krynica and Podhale Nowy Targ , with the aim of revoking their license, because payments to the association had not been made. Both teams were finally able to play the season to the end, but lost their best players to other clubs, with the result that they were no longer competitive and the previous leaders KTH Krynica slipped to sixth place in the table and record champions Podhale Nowy Targ bottom of the table at the end of the season was and could only remain in the league by the waiver of the team from Krynica-Zdrój.
