Saint-Chéron is a commune with 5072 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Étampes and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Dourdan . The inhabitants are called Saint-Chéronnais .

Saint-Chéron is located on the Orge River . Saint-Chéron is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Maurice-Montcouronne in the north, Breuillet in the northeast, Breux-Jouy in the east, Souzy-la-Briche in the southeast, Villeconin in the south, Sermaise in the west and southwest and Le Val-Saint-Germain in the north-west.
The municipality's train station is served by the RER C line.
