history

Rudersberg 1686 in the Kieser forest inventory book

The first documentary mention of Rudersberg in a document from Pope Innocent IV comes from the year 1245.

Schlechtbach was mentioned in 1298 as Minneslechbach when part of a yard was handed over to the Adelberg monastery . Diepoldus de Slechbach , a follower of Emperor Friedrich I , was mentioned as early as 1181 .

Steinenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1234.

The villages of Asperglen and Krehwinkel were in 1411 as part of a transfer of property from Count Eberhard III of Württemberg . mentioned to Georg von Urbach.

The district of Michelau is located on the southern border of the municipality as the "gateway to the municipality of Rudersberg" and was first mentioned in 1284 in a document from Konrad von Waldenstein. This Konrad von Waldenstein was a servant at the imperial court and promised an Albert von Michenlowe that he would no longer contest the Lorch monastery because of a property in the village. The name Michelau comes from the old German and means "Hof in der Au". In 1821 Michelau was assigned to the church and school of the then Steinenberg community. In terms of local politics, however, the place belonged to Unterschlechtbach. A grinding mill and an oil mill were located in Michelau. These mills were driven by a 2.5 km long mill stream, the water of which was taken from the Wieslauf. The oil mill now serves as a museum.

Until 1910, viticulture was practiced in the villages that are now part of Rudersberg. Because the phylloxera destroyed all of the vines , they switched to fruit growing. The largest contiguous orchards in the region are located in the municipality , which makes Rudersberg the municipality with the relatively highest proportion of orchards in Germany.

When the Kingdom of Württemberg was established in 1806, Rudersberg was in the Oberamt Schorndorf . In 1807 it was reclassified to the neighboring Oberamt Welzheim . In 1905, when the Wieslauftalbahn was built, Rudersberg was connected to the railway network of the Württemberg State Railways .

During the regional reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Rudersberg was assigned to the Waiblingen district in 1938 .

In 1942 the Gestapo - Stapo control center in Stuttgart - took over the restaurant "Zur Ritterburg" and had it converted into a labor education camp (AEL) for 140 women. Under miserable living conditions and harassment, they had to do forced labor at the Horn woodworks in Rudersberg, at the Bauknecht company in Welzheim and in agriculture. After the bombing of the Stuttgart police prisons , the camp was totally overcrowded with over 300 people. The camp also functioned as a transit station for deportations to concentration and extermination camps such as Ravensbrück and Auschwitz. A total of around 3,500 women passed through the camp. A memorial in the cemetery commemorates the fate of the women imprisoned.

In 1945 the Rudersberg became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was merged into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

On February 25, 1972, Asperglen was incorporated into Rudersberg. On October 1, 1972, the communities of Rudersberg and Steinenberg were united to form the new community of Rudersberg, today's community was formed on January 1, 1975 by the merger of this community with the community of Schlechtbach (so since February 16, 1967, previously Unterschlechtbach). Since January 1st 1973 Rudersberg belongs to the Rems-Murr-Kreis as part of the district reform in Baden-Württemberg .

The remainder of Waldenstein Castle is in the Waldenstein district , today a castle restaurant.

Religions

Rudersberg has been evangelical-Lutheran since the Reformation was introduced in the 16th century . Today there are two local evangelical parishes, Rudersberg and Schlechtbach, which are united in the overall evangelical parish of Rudersberg-Schlechtbach in the Schorndorf parish of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg . In the meantime, however, the Roman Catholic Church is represented again with a pastoral office. There is also a Methodist and a New Apostolic congregation in town.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Rudersberg train station, in the background the Protestant town church

Rudersberg-Oberndorf is today's terminus of the scheduled train service on the Wieslauftalbahn from Schorndorf, which opened in 1908 to Rudersberg . The Royal Württemberg State Railways built the Rudersberg station building as a unit station of type IIb. During rush hour, the train runs every half an hour. A coordinated bus delivery concept supplies the districts that are not on the railway line. The continuation of the railway line to Welzheim , which was completed in 1911 and closed after a landslide in 1988 , has been used by tourist trains again on Sundays and public holidays in the summer and Advent season since May 2010 according to a special timetable. The connection to the national road network, B 14 in Backnang, B 29 in Schorndorf and A 81 in Mundelsheim , is made by state roads.

On the initiative of Mayor Martin Kaufmann, Rudersberg was one of the first municipalities in Germany to implement a road design for a state road based on the principle of shared space based on the example of Bohmte (Lower Saxony) and thus achieved second place in the German Transport Planning Prize 2016.

Culture and sights

Evangelical Johanneskirche Rudersberg

Of the much smaller late Gothic church building from the period between 1450 and 1500, only the tower with its half-timbered bell chamber and the bell from 1495 are preserved. In the fire in the place in 1693, the ship was affected and probably only inadequately restored, so that in 1781 the master builder Johann Adam Groß the Younger was commissioned with the new construction. As early as November 1782, the hall building, designed as a transverse church with three-sided galleries, was inaugurated in a simple late baroque style: the pulpit in the south, the organ gallery in the east, a single gallery in the west and a double gallery in the north; The stalls on the ground floor also faced the pulpit to the south, and the altar stood below the organ. The area thus corresponded to the Reformation liturgy and church building practice. After the Second World War, the church renovation was due for the first time combined with an interior redesign and a strict realignment of the stalls to the east. "Unfortunately, the room has recently been redesigned into a longitudinal room, ignoring its special features," notes the building historian and architect Walther-Gerd Fleck in 1973, referring to the renovation carried out in 1957 by Schorndorf architect Peter Haag . In 1974 an exterior, 1982 an interior and 1989 a tower renovation followed. In 1930 , the Stuttgart artist Walter Kohler created three south-facing windows in the pulpit area (Baptism of Jesus, blessing of the children, parable of the prodigal son) for the original interior design . After the renovation, the Schorndorf artist Werner Oberle designed the three windows of the new altar wall (Johannes, Christ, Passion) in 1959, and the Strümpfelbach sculptor Karl Ulrich Nuss created the altar cross and the candlesticks in bronze in 1980.

Evangelical Church of the Resurrection Schlechtbach

The Schlechtbacher church was rebuilt in 1972 according to plans by the Stuttgart architect Kurt Marohn with a community center.
