She Came In Through the Bathroom Window ( English She came in through the bathroom window ) is a song by British band The Beatles in 1969. Composed of it was Paul McCartney , who also sang. The song is part of a medley that appeared on the Abbey Road album. The copyright is Lennon / McCartney .

background

The origin of the song is unclear, several contradicting stories that are said to have inspired Paul McCartney for She Came In Through the Bathroom Window are in circulation.

The best-known story is that the so-called " Apple scruffs " ( groupies of the Beatles) were a source of inspiration. A groupie named Jessica Samuels claimed that she and other fans were bored outside Paul McCartney's private residence because it wasn't home. She is said to have taken a ladder with which she entered the house through a slightly open bathroom window. Afterwards, she is said to have let in more fans through the apartment door. The fans stole several photos in the house. Another groupie named Margo Bird, who allegedly was friends with McCartney, reportedly returned one of these photos to him at his request.

Even Mike Pinder , keyboardist of the band Moody Blues , claimed in a published interview in 2006 for themselves to have inspired McCartney to the song. According to this, a groupie from The Moody Blues got through a bathroom window into the apartment of the band's singer, Ray Thomas , and then spent the night with him. Pinder and Thomas told the story to Paul McCartney, who just had a guitar with him and spontaneously sang the title line of She Came In Through the Bathroom Window .

admission

The song was recorded back in late January 1969 during the recording sessions for the album Let It Be , but these versions remained unreleased.

Work on the final version of She Came In Through the Bathroom Window began on July 25, 1969 in London's Abbey Road Studios . The producer was George Martin , assisted by Geoff Emerick and Phil McDonald . Since the song is part of a medley, it was recorded together with the Lennon composition Polythene Pam in 39 takes with the usual line-up of the Beatles. Various overdubs were then recorded. Further overdubs followed on July 28 and 30, 1969.

She Came In Through the Bathroom Window was released on September 26, 1969 on the album Abbey Road . A single was not released. An early version of the song, dated January 22, 1969, did not appear on the album Anthology 3 until 1996 .
