al-Fath

Al-Fath ( Arabic الفتح al-Fatḥ  'Success') is the 48th sura of the Koran , it contains 29 verses . Their title refers to the first verse.

It was announced in Medina . It originated at the time after Mohammed led the march against Mecca in March 628 and subsequently concluded the Hudaibiya peace agreement with the Quraish , the leading tribe of Mecca.

The eponymous "success" appearing in the first verse is mostly related to the conquest of Mecca in 630, as well as the support of God mentioned in the following verses. The "inner calm" in verse 4 is the state of the Sakina soul . Verses 11-17 are directed against those “left behind”, those are the hypocrites among the Arab Bedouins , whom Mohammed initially excludes from the easy raid against Chaibar because he rates their desire for forgiveness as dishonest. In verse 16, however, a milder attitude towards them is adopted with the words "If you obey, God will give you a fine reward". The tree mentioned in verse 18 is the tree of Hudaibiya under which the two parties made the peace agreement . In verse 27 the fulfillment of a dream is announced, namely the pilgrimage to Mecca postponed by one year according to the peace agreement in the year 629, as well as the taking of the city and entering the Holy Mosque "with shaved head and trimmed hair" in the year 630 concluding verse 29 begins withمحمد رسول الله- Muḥammadun rasūlu ʾllāh - “Mohammed is the Messenger of God”, the second part of the Islamic creed , whereupon parallels to the Torah and the Gospel are drawn.
