The Thira regional district ( Greek Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Θήρας Periferiaki Enotita Thiras ) is one of 13 regional districts in the South Aegean region of Greece . It was formed from six island communities of the former Cyclades prefecture on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 and corresponds exactly to the area of ​​the former province of Thira, which existed until 1997. In proportion to its 16,686 inhabitants, the area sends three members to the regional council, but has no further political significance as a local authority. Today it is divided into the five parishes Anafi , Folegandros , Ios , Sikinos and Thira .
