Wyszembork [ vɨˈʂɛmbɔrk ] ( German Weißenburg , 1940 to 1945 Weißenburg (Ostpr.) ) Is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Mrągowo ( rural community Sensburg ) in the powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ).
Geographical location
Wyszembork is located in the heart of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , eight kilometers northeast of the district town of Mrągowo ( German Sensburg ).
history
The former Weißenburg was founded in 1376.
On April 8, 1874, it became Amtsdorf and thus gave its name to an administrative district that existed until 1945 and belonged to the Sensburg district in the Gumbinnen district (from 1905: Allenstein district ) in the Prussian province of East Prussia . The districts of Berghof ( Biestrzykowo in Polish , no longer existent) and Marienhof (Brodzikowo) were incorporated into the municipality of Weißenburg .
Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population voted in the referendums in East and West Prussia on July 11, 1920 on whether they would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus Germany) or join Poland. In Weißenburg, 440 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not receive any votes.
On September 30, 1928 Waldhausen (Boże Małe) was incorporated into Weissenburg. On April 25, 1940 the place name was officially changed to "Weißenburg (Ostpr.)".
In 1945 as a result of the war, all of southern East Prussia came to Poland . This now also affected Weißenburg, which received the Polish form of the name “Wyszembork”. Today the village is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) and as such a place within the Gmina Mrągowo (rural municipality Sensburg ) in the powiat Mrągowski ( Sensburg district ), until 1998 the Olsztyn (Allenstein) Voivodeship , since then assigned to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

church
Evangelical
Weißenburg was parish up to 1945 in the parish of the Evangelical Church Seehesten ( Polish: Szestno ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The Protestant cemetery still dates from the time before 1945, but it sometimes looks overgrown.
Today the Protestant residents of Wyszembork stick to their parish church Mrągowo , which is part of the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .
Catholic
On the Catholic side , Weißenburg was incorporated into the parish church of St. Adalbert Sensburg ( Polish Mrągowo ) in the former diocese of Warmia before 1945 . Today the Holy Cross Church in Szestno is the responsible parish church for Catholics in Wyszembork, which now belongs to the Archdiocese of Warmia .
traffic
Street
Wyszembork is conveniently located between two main roads: the Polish national road 59 (former German Reichsstraße 140 ), which reaches the town from Zalec (Salza) , and the voivodship road 591 , which goes from Szestno (Seehesten) to Wyszembork or on to Słabowo ( Slabowen , 1928 to 1945 Langenwiese) .
rail
Wyszembork no longer has a train connection. From 1898 to 1966 the village was a train station on the Sensburg – Rastenburg railway line (in Polish Mrągowo – Kętrzyn ), which was used by the Rastenburg small railways until 1945 , but is now closed and mostly dismantled.
