geography
location
Wilhelmsdorf is located north of the Hohenwarte reservoir of the Saale on a higher terrain level of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains after the Saale heights. To the north are the towns of Pößneck and Ranis .
Community structure
The community Wilhelmsdorf consists of the districts Wilhelmsdorf and Kalte Schenke .
history
The first mention of the municipality of Wilhelmsdorf is proven in a document from 1381. In the 17th century, a post mill was built on the Hohe Straße . This served well well into the 20th century.
The coat of arms of the community shows Justitia with the scales, from which one can conclude that Wilhelmsdorf had its own jurisdiction. According to ancient traditions, the place was a mining village until the 17th century, as can be seen from the old tunnels and mountain holes. Wilhelmsdorf belonged to the electoral office of Arnshaugk until 1815 and after its assignment, decided at the Congress of Vienna , came to the Prussian district of Ziegenrück , to which the place belonged until 1945.
