Numbers in different languages
There are linguistic representations for numbers in all human languages. The development of counting and the concept of numbers as well as linguistic developments can be traced from these number words or number names . Some languages only know numerals that correspond to our two and denote all larger numbers with “more”. This is evidence of the - by no means self-evident - fact that counting (even small quantities) is not innate to humans, but that they have acquired it in the course of their civilization history.
In some languages the numbers are spoken as "ones" - "tens": nineteen (English). From the age of 21 this sometimes becomes “tens” - “one”: twenty-one (English). Sometimes this break happens between 13 and 19.
These and many other linguistic and numerical relationships can be traced using the following tables.

Remarks
- ↑ a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v The spelling can vary locally depending on the writer. (see article for the respective language)
- ↑ a b c d e f g h i j Language extinct in everyday life
- ↑ a b c d e f g h According to "Kauderwelsch Volume 211, Sorbisch Wort für Wort", ISBN 978-3-89416-381-5 , pages 75-77.
- ↑ Instead of 零 , 〇 is also often written, such as in the year ( 二 〇〇 五 èrlínglíngwǔ for 2005 ), see Chinese numbers
- ↑ a b c d e Syllable tone progression over the first spoken vowel v of a syllable: v̄, v (even), v̀ (low), v̂ (falling), v́ (high), v̌ (rising / asking). The phonetic spelling is based on IPA ( International Phonetic Alphabet ). In particular, the umlauts written here as ä, ö and ü, spoken with a wide mouth and deviating from the German pronunciation are also represented differently in dictionaries (e.g. ä = ɛ, ö = ə, ü = ʉ; also aː = aa, ŋ = ng ...).

- ↑ a b c d e The numbers used depend on your stake, see Korean numbers . The classification of the language is also not clearly clarified.
- ↑ a b c d e No standardized spelling available
- ↑ a b c This is the traditional way of counting. Welsh numbers have been reformed over the last century. The older system of twenty has been partially replaced by a system of ten, but is still used in certain contexts. In the tens system, the number syntax of the numbers 11 to 99 works according to the following pattern: tens- "deg" -enumber. Ex: un-deg-naw (19); pedwar-deg-chendung (46)… exceptions for morphological reasons: 20-29 dur-ddeg-… (instead of dur-deg-…), 50-59 pum-deg-… (instead of pump-deg) and 60-69 chwe -deg (instead of change-deg).
- ↑ a b The variants in the lower row are colloquial, but widespread.
- ↑ The numbers in the upper row (each advacet etc.), composed according to the German pattern, are more common than those in the lower row (dvacet each etc.).

- ↑ a b The system of 'échelle courte' (French for 'short scale') is used in the USA and officially in Great Britain; In addition, in Great Britain you can also find the long scale with milliards , billiards , etc. (see also long and short scale )
- ↑ a b Brazil, like the USA, uses the short scale (French Échelle courte ), while Portugal uses the long scale common in continental Europe (see also long and short scale ). However, in Portugal bilhão is often used for the billion, but mil bilhões for the trillion.
- ↑ The short scale is used in Russian, with the exception of the number 10 9 , which is named after the long scale.
- ↑ Croatian thousands differ significantly from Serbian / Bosnian.
