The University of Strathclyde , German University of Strathclyde , in Scotland Glasgow is a British University , created in 1796 as Anderson's Institution was established. The facility was based on the ideas of John Anderson , Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow , who gave instructions in his will for a university that focuses on "useful learning" and specializes in practical and professional subjects. From 1828 to 1877 the institution was called Anderson's University . In the 1890s, a successful appeal for donations enabled significant expansion, creating the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College Building . In 1912 the institution was named Royal Technical College and it was not until 1964 that it became the University of Strathclyde , when it was awarded the Royal Charter . The name goes back to the West Scottish Kingdom of Strathclyde .
22,000 students are taught in four faculties at the university. Among them are 7,000 postgraduates. Another 34,000 people take part in continuing education courses at the university. Strathclyde Business School in particular is known for its excellent reputation and is one of the 30 best business schools in Europe and the 100 best in the world. It holds the so-called Triple Crown , which means that it has all three prestigious university accreditations for business schools. The university campus is in central Glasgow near George Square and there is a campus in the Jordanhill suburb on the site of the former Jordanhill Teacher Training College . The Jordanhill campus is connected via the nearby Jordanhill train station.
