Babieniec ( German Babziens ) is a village in Poland in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in the powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ) in the Gmina Korsze (urban and rural municipality Korschen ).
Geographical location
Babieniec is located on the south bank of the Babienieckie Jezioro in the northern center of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , twelve kilometers west of the district town of Kętrzyn ( German Rastenburg ).
history
Place name
The place was mentioned in 1374 as Babaten and in the Polonized spellings Babazayn and Babaczin. The meaning of the name is unclear: "boba" (a type of fish) or "babo" (bean).
Local history
Babzins was created in 1390 according to Kulmer law with 40 hooves area. In 1785 it was named as "noble estate and farming village with 19 fire places", in 1820 as "noble village and Vorwerk with 14 fire places and 186 souls".
In 1874 Babziens came to the newly established district of Tolksdorf ( Polish Tołkiny ), which belonged to the district of Rastenburg in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . On April 1, 1938, the neighboring Junkerken (polish was Jutrkowo , no longer in existence) incorporated by Babziens.
There was an inn in Baziens, but it wasn't doing very well, so the operator only had to pay half the taxes of the other residents.
In 1973 the place formed a community network with two other places.
During an administrative reform in 1975, Babieniec became part of the newly formed Olsztyn Voivodeship and remained so until its dissolution. From 1999 the village was part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) within the urban and rural municipality of Korsze (Korschen) in the Powiat Kętrzyński ( Rastenburg district ).

Until 1945 Babziens was parish in the Evangelical Church Schönfließ ( Polish Kraskowo ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church Korschen (Polish Korsze ) in the Diocese of Warmia .
Today Babieniec belongs on the Protestant side to the parish of Kętrzyn in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland , on the Catholic side to the parish of Kraskowo in the current Archdiocese of Warmia .

Babieniec can be reached from Voiwodschaftsstrasse 592 (former German Reichsstrasse 135 ): both from Dzikowina (Eberstein) and from Kraskowo (Schönfließ) . A side road also leads from the Voivodship Road 590 from Worpławki (Worplack) to Babieniec.

The nearest train station for Babiniec is Tołkiny (Tolksdorf) and is on the Białystok – Ełk – Korsze ( German Bialystok – Lyck – Korschen ) railway .
