The China Open 2008 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2007/08 season , which was held from March 24th to 30th, 2008 in Beijing. For the second time since 2007, the main sponsor was the tobacco company Honghe Industrial.
Defending champion Graeme Dott lost his opening match against Barry Pinches . His successor came back from Scotland: Stephen Maguire defeated Englishman Shaun Murphy just 10: 9 in the final . In the semifinals, Maguire also managed the first maximum break that was achieved at the China Open. It was maximum number two in his career.

Wildcard round
As in previous years, there were eight Chinese amateurs who received a wildcard from their association. At the start of the tournament, they were allowed to play an additional round against eight professionals to participate in the main tournament. Unlike before, this time no local player was able to prevail.
The games of the wildcard round were played on March 24th. Game mode for all games was Best of 9 .
Final roundThe top 16 of the world rankings were set for round 2 and played against the 8 winners of the wildcard round and the 8 other qualifiers from Prestatyn. finalThe eventful finale began with a series by the Scottish Stephen Maguire , who after a 2-1 deficit pulled away with two century breaks to 5-2. Even before the session break , Shaun Murphy shortened with a break of 136 points and in the evening turned the score to 7: 5 with the first four frames. With a 137 break Maguire then started a series of 4 again, which brought him 9: 7 forward and only one frame away from victory. But the English equalized again. A hard-fought decider finally decided the final in favor of Maguire, who won his fourth rankings title.
qualificationThe qualifying games took place from January 22nd to 25th, 2008 in Prestatyn . In round 1, places 65 to 96 of the world rankings played against each other, the winners met in round 2 on places 49 to 64, in round 3 numbers 33 to 48 and in round 4 numbers 17 to 32. kl. = without a fight Century breaks17 players scored 40 breaks of at least 100 points in the main tournament. Tournament winner Stephen Maguire scored his second official 147 break almost eight years to the day after his first maximum . It was the first at the China Open.
