The Citroën LN (later LNA ) is a small car of the Citroën brand of the PSA group and was based on the three-door coupé version of the Peugeot 104 . It was produced from autumn 1976 to summer 1986.
technology
The basis for the LN introduced in November 1976 was the Peugeot 104 Z. The LN was initially powered by an air-cooled 602 cm³ boxer engine known from the Dyane . When it appeared, it was criticized that the almost identical takeover of the rather conservative Peugeot model would dilute the image of the Citroën brand, which had previously been perceived as extravagant - which had been taken over by Peugeot shortly before .
As of November 1978, the name of the car was changed from LN to LNA. In the basic version it now had the 2-cylinder boxer engine of the Visa enlarged to 652 cm³ , in the variants LNA 11 E and 11 RE there was a 1124 cm³ and 36 kW (49 hp) water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine as in the Peugeot 104 used.
Both names were - as was common with Citroën at the time - onomatopoeic . In French, LN sounds like Hélène and LNA like Héléna.
In August 1986 production of the LNA was stopped. The LN produced 129,611, the LNA 223,772, for a total of 353,383. In September 1986 it was replaced by the Citroën AX .
