Career highlights and awards

Daniel Patrick "Dan" Quinn (born September 11, 1970 in Morristown , New Jersey ) is an American American football trainer. He is currently Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years and playing career

Quinn played high school football at Morristown High School. He later attended Salisbury University , where he was on the defensive line from 1990 to 1993 . He was a regular player in all four years and also took part in the athletics program, where he broke school records in hammer throwing. At the end of his college career, he was inducted into the Salisbury University Athletic Hall of Fame .

Coaching career

His coaching career began in 1994 when he was in charge of the defensive line at the College of William & Mary . Through the stations at Virginia Military Institute and Hofstra University , he finally got into professional sport when he took over the position of Defensive Quality Control Coach with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001 . He later trained the defensive lines in San Francisco as well as with the Miami Dolphins , New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks . After a year hiatus, which he spent with the college football team at the University of Florida , he returned to the Seahawks to hold the position of defensive coordinator . He replaced Gus Bradley , who had switched to the Jacksonville Jaguars . That year, the Seahawks defense allowed the fewest points and yards while having the most turnover . This was an NFL team for the first time since the Chicago Bears from the year 1985 and at the end of the season the Seahawks won the Super Bowl XLVIII .

On February 2, 2015, Quinn signed a five-year contract as head coach with the Atlanta Falcons . He managed to stabilize the Falcons' defensive, which had weakened in the preseason, and made a good start to his debut season with four wins at the beginning of the season. At the end of the season there were eight wins and eight defeats, which was enough for a second place in the NFC South, but not for a play-off entry.

In the 2016 season , Quinn was first with the Falcons in the NFC South (eleven wins, five losses). After two play-off wins against the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers , he reached the Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots , which was lost in overtime with 28:34.

In the following season, the Falcons under Quinn could reach the playoffs again, although they were only third in the NFC South. However, they failed in the Divisional Round at the eventual Super Bowl winner Philadelphia Eagles . In the 2018 and 2019 season, the Falcons missed the playoffs despite a second place in the division.
