The 31st German championship season 1937/38 ended with a big surprise. The outsider Hannoverscher Sportverein from 1896 won the German championship title in 2 finals against FC Schalke 04 . Hannover 96 won the Lower Saxony championship only because of the better goal difference in front of VfL Osnabrück . Hannover 96 remained undefeated in the final round of the German championship.
