In contrast to the previous season , the ice hockey league of the 2004/05 season was regionally divided into the Oberliga Nord-Ost and Oberliga Süd, each with eleven clubs and topped up by interested teams from the regional leagues in the north as well as from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg .

Before the season

Of the teams that were athletically qualified in the previous season, the EC Berlin Capitals eV no longer participated in the league due to bankruptcy and ERC Selb due to dissolution.

The odd number of participants per group was not wanted, but was due to the aforementioned cancellations. In addition, the Ratinger Ice Aliens were approved for the DEB area, but did not receive the required approval from the North Rhine-Westphalia regional association .

mode

The mode was determined that the participants in places 1 to 6 of the Oberliga Süd as well as the Oberliga Nord in the group-wide main round and the other teams in a relegation round determine the participants in the play-downs within their round .

On November 17, 2004, the ERC Hassfurt Sharks team withdrew from gaming operations due to bankruptcy , whereupon all the Oberliga Nord games previously played against this team were canceled. To compensate for the missing home games of the remaining teams, a qualifying round for the DEB-Pokal was introduced, in which the previously free team competed against the opponent of the ERC Haßfurt Sharks scheduled for the respective day . This qualifying round is recorded in a separate table and entitles the two best-placed teams not eligible for promotion to participate in the first round of the DEB Cup of the following season.

The main round was divided into two groups, into which the participants were divided depending on the final table in the preliminary round groups. After completion of the two groups, the play-offs followed for the teams placed 1 to 4 , while the season was over for the teams in 5 and 6 - but at the same time the qualification for the Oberliga 2005/06 was achieved.

The play-offs for the Oberliga championship were also seen as promotion play-offs for the 2nd Bundesliga 2005/06 , for which the teams of the Dresdner Eislöwen and the EHC Munich qualified.

After completion of the relegation rounds, the two teams played the only relegated relegated from the major league in the best-of mode in the last places , while the other teams also qualified for the major league 2005/06.

Promotion from the regional associations

The regulation as to which team from the regional associations was allowed to rise to the Oberliga 2005/06 was made independently by them:

From the Bavarian Ice Sports Association only the champions of the Bayernliga EV Landsberg 2000 received approval, while the runner-up Mannheim ERC received approval from the Ice Sports Association of Baden-Württemberg - there the champions - the 2nd team of the Schwenningen ERC - would not have been eligible for promotion.

From the regional leagues in the north , the champion of the regional league North Rhine-Westphalia Ratinger Ice Aliens and the champion of the regional league Hessen Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim received approval, while no team from the regional leagues north and east applied for approval.
