history

Northwest of Erxleben is the large stone grave Heidenkrippe , whose origin was around 3500–3000 BC. Is estimated. Erxleben first mentions a document from the Ludgerikloster near Helmstedt in 958.

This document mentions the place Inarraxluuu and the personal names of the farmers who worked this land. The name “Arraxluvu” is pronounced by separating the words and replacing the second “u” with a consonant “v”.

The founder of the place was called Arrax (= personal name, here Erich ), the suffix luvu means something like "inheritance, legacy". The site was later called "Erich's Laube". In the course of time, various forms of name developed from this, which eventually became Erxleben.

Erxleben is closely linked to the history of Erxleben Castle , which was owned by the von Alvensleben family from around 1270 to 1945 . Today's Christ Church was built on the site of a previous building in 1716 .

In 1812 a 2.25 kilogram heavy meteorite fell near Erxleben . It belongs to class H6 of the common chondrites . The main part of it is now owned by the University of Göttingen .

On September 30, 1928, the main part of the Erxleben I estate district was combined with the rural community of Erxleben; small parts of the district came to the rural communities Hörsingen and Eimersleben. On the same day, the main part of the Erxleben II estate district was also united with Erxleben; small parts came to the rural communities of Bregenstedt, Emden, Hörsingen and Ostingersleben.

On December 31, 2009 the previously independent community of Bregenstedt was incorporated into the community of Erxleben. Bartensleben , Hakenstedt (with the district Groppendorf ) and Uhrsleben followed on January 1, 2010. This happened in the course of the municipal reform in Saxony-Anhalt, with the background that the member municipalities of an association municipality must have at least 1000 inhabitants.

The architectural monuments of the municipality of Erxleben are listed in the local monument register .

coat of arms

Hausmannsturm and Erxleben Castle Church

The coat of arms was approved on September 11, 1996 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : “Split and half-divided by red, silver and green; on the right a growing, silver tower with a domed roof and lantern with pole and knob, under the edge of the roof two black windows, underneath two black arrow slits in the middle, each separated by a circumferential edge, on the top left a green oak leaf with two golden acorns, on the bottom left a silver one Ploughshare with a golden knife. "

The present design is based on a coat of arms seal that has been in use since 1986 and has not yet been confirmed.

The silver tower represents the landmark of the community, the towering "Hausmannsturm" of the castle Erxleben. The colors silver - red remind of the affiliation to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg. The green oak leaf with the two golden fruits symbolizes the proximity to the forest and the abundance of trees in the two castle parks of the municipality. The silver ploughshare stands for the rural character of the community and also symbolizes that the fertile Bördeboden is cultivated, so there is no fallow or heathland in the Erxlebener Flur.

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg heraldist Erika Fiedler .

flag

The flag of the municipality is white and red striped with the municipality's coat of arms.
