The Mannheim University of Applied Sciences was created in 2006 through the merger of the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences - University of Technology and Design and the University of Applied Sciences for Social Sciences . It is a German university of applied sciences based in Mannheim .
structure
The university is divided into nine faculties: biotechnology, electrical engineering, design, computer science, information technology, mechanical engineering, social affairs, process and chemical engineering and industrial engineering. It is also represented with 22 bachelor's degree programs and 10 master’s degree programs.
history
The university was founded by Paul Wittsack in 1898 as a private, city-subsidized engineering school with the subjects of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering . In 1939 it was completely taken over by the city and renamed the Mannheim City Engineering School . In 1962 it was taken over by the state of Baden-Württemberg and renamed the State Engineering School Mannheim . In the following years, the range of subjects was greatly expanded to include chemical engineering, computer science and process engineering. In 1971 the engineering school received university status and was renamed the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences . In 1977 the skyscraper was opened as Building 10. In 1986, Mannheim was one of the first universities of applied sciences to receive a biotechnology course as part of a federal model test.
In 1995 the previously municipal college for design was incorporated into the college for technology as a faculty for design with the institutes for interactive media , print-oriented media , time-based media , photography and design studies . It had its origin in the private art school founded in 1920. In 1973 it was taken over by the city of Mannheim.
In 2006 it merged with the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences . Since 2005, the name of the institution has simply been Mannheim University of Applied Sciences .
In 2009 the university was accepted into the European University Association (EUA) as one of the few universities without the right to award doctorates . Accession enables better cooperation in European research networks and participation in international research associations.
