FOX Channel is a pay TV broadcaster that broadcasts international series as premieres in German-speaking countries. The transmitter is available in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The operator is the Munich- based Fox Networks Group Germany GmbH.

history

On March 10, 2008, the subsidiary of Rupert Murdochs News Corporation , Fox Entertainment, submitted the application for the broadcasting license of FOX International Channels Germany GmbH to Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg . Earlier, Murdoch rose already at VOX , TM3 and 2008 at Premiere in the German television one.

The second FOX broadcaster after National Geographic in Germany primarily needed distribution options, so in spring 2008 several discussions were held with pay-TV providers. Surprisingly, it turned out that the broadcast of the FOX Channel was not initially planned for Premiere, where the News Corporation had a 19.9 percent stake. Contracts with Arena and Unitymedia were secured .

On April 10, 2008, the commission to determine the concentration in the media sector gave the green light to activate the station. On May 19, 2008, the special interest broadcaster was switched to the arenaSAT platform and fed into the Unitymedia cable network the following day. On August 3, 2008, Premiere signed the contracts to start broadcasting on October 4, 2008.

On October 23, 2017, the pay-TV broadcaster achieved the highest ratings ever. The first episode of the eighth season of the series The Walking Dead reached 510,000 viewers and a market share of 1.6 percent. Among the 14 to 49 year olds the station achieved a market share of 4.2 percent.

From March 23, 2020, the station will be available to all Sky Deutschland customers through an offer from Sky Deutschland , which will release the Sky Cinema and Sky Entertainment packages for one month due to COVID-19 .

FOX HD

FOX HD has been broadcast as a simulcast on the FOX Channel since October 2010 . The HD channel has been broadcast by Unitymedia since November 1st, 2010 . Other cable network operators followed in the course of the year. Since October 15, 2011, the high-resolution channel can also be received via Sky .

FOX HD broadcasts in 1080i resolution.

In Germany, the station can be received via the bouquets of the cable network operators Vodafone Kabel Deutschland , PŸUR and Unitymedia . It is also broadcast by Sky via cable and satellite. The provider Vodafone broadcasts the station via its IPTV platform. The station has been broadcast at Telekom via Entertain since August 31, 2016. The transmitter is included in the film package and in the big TV.

In Austria, Sky offers FOX Channel via cable and satellite. A1 Telekom Austria broadcasts the station via IPTV.

In Switzerland, the station is broadcast via the cable provider UPC Switzerland . IPTV transmission is possible via the pay-TV provider Teleclub .

program

The program mainly focuses on the first broadcast of US series. The FOX Channel holds the rights to Lost from season four , as well as the series Carnivàle , The Sopranos , Entourage , Greek , Las Vegas , Lass es, Larry! , Practice - The Lawyers , Reaper - A Diabolical Job and The West Wing - At the Center of Power .

Since November 3rd, 2008 the FOX Channel can be received 24 hours a day. Previously, the program was broadcast 18 hours a day. All series are broadcast without commercial breaks and with German and English soundtracks. By the beginning of 2009 the program should be broadcast in 16: 9 and Dolby Digital . The change to 16: 9 took place on April 1st, 2009.

Since 2014, the end credits of programs have been cut in order to increase the length of time that viewers spend there and self-promotion has been broadcast instead.
