To the game

Brazil had qualified for the quarter-finals with a 6: 5 after extra time against Poland. The encounter made World Cup history and is one of the "special" World Cup games. The reason was the rousing striker duel between the Brazilian Leonidas and the Poland Wilimowski, who took part in the peat festival with three and four goals respectively. The reigning vice world champion Czechoslovakia had prevailed with a 3-0 after extra time against the Netherlands. The game was extremely tough in Bordeaux. There were three dismissals and at CSR, striker Nejedly had a broken leg and goalkeeper and captain Planicka had a broken forearm. Both fell out for the replay on June 14.

To the game

Coach Alfréd Schaffer's team qualified for the game against Switzerland with an effortless 6-0 win against the Dutch East Indies, which won the replay on June 9 in Paris with a 4-2 win against Germany. Coach Karl Rappan had to replace defender and captain Severino Minelli and left winger Georges Aeby and had only two days to recover for his "national team" - compared to six days for the Hungarians. When center forward Sarosi brought his team 1-0 up just before the break, that was the preliminary decision. The tired Swiss had it only thanks to the strong goalkeeper Willy Huber that the famous Hungarian combination game was only reflected with the 2-0 in the 89th minute by Zsengeller.

To the game

The Swedes, supervised by coach József Nagy , had reached the quarter-finals without a fight, as Austria could no longer compete after joining Germany. Cuba, who had come to the World Cup by renouncing Argentina, surprisingly prevailed against Romania in the replay with 2-1 goals. The rested Swedes prevailed with 8-0 goals against the team from the Caribbean. Two exhausting games against Romania and only two days of relaxation, plus the exhausting journey from Toulouse to Antibes, the men from Cuba could not put up with.

To the game

Defending champions Italy, led by coach Vittorio Pozzo, had a hard time against Norway in the round of 16. The Scandinavians, supervised by Asbjørn Halvorsen , equalized 1: 1 in the 83rd minute and the outstanding striker of the Squadra Azzurra, Silvio Piola, was only able to make the 2-1 final score in extra time. The World Cup organizer France, on the other hand, deserved to prevail with 3-1 goals against Belgium. The early 1-0 lead of the Pozzo team by Colaussi in the 9th minute was immediately offset by Heisserer. Nothing more happened until half time. After the break, Piola offset the World Cup with two goals from the Equipe Tricolore.

To the game

Brazil coach Ademar Pimenta had changed the Seleção to nine positions compared to the first game. The Czechoslovak team, on the other hand, was visibly tired and weakened by the injury-related losses of goalkeeper Planicka and striker Nejedly. After Leonidas equalized in the 57th minute, the team of coach Josef Meissner had nothing more to oppose the South Americans.
