The Barmen-Mitte residential area in Wuppertal is one of six quarters in the Barmen district . It is the historic center Gemarke the former independent city Barmen .
geography
The 0.53 km² residential area is located east of the geographic center of Wuppertal, in a valley on both sides of the Wupper . It is bounded in the north by the route of the disused Wuppertaler Nordbahn , in the west by the streets Steinweg and Fischertal , in the south by the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway and in the east by the streets Heidter Berg , Bachstraße and Westkotter Straße . Clockwise, Barmen-Mitte surrounds the Sedansberg , Oberbarmen-Schwarzbach , Heckinghausen , Heidt , Kothen and Friedrich-Engels-Allee quarters . The Wupper with the Wuppertal suspension railway above flows through the residential area located in the valley, parallel to it runs the federal road 7 , here called Höhne .
Barmen-Mitte is the central traffic junction in Barmen, the Old Market .
There are numerous listed buildings in the quarter, such as the Wuppertal town hall on Johannes-Rau-Platz or the Barmer Hall of Fame on Geschwister-Scholl-Platz , both connected via the Werth pedestrian zone . Other culturally and historically significant buildings are the Concordia Society House , the Gemarker Church , in which the Barmer Theological Declaration was adopted at the Confessional Synod of the German Evangelical Church on May 31, 1934 , the Bergische Synagoge , and the Sedanstrasse grammar school founded in 1643 .
