I'll Follow the Sun ( English analogously: I'll follow the sun ) is a song by British band The Beatles , in 1964 on their fourth studio album Beatles for Sale was published. It was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and published under the author's name Lennon / McCartney .

I'll Follow the Sun was composed in 1959 and is mainly based on the musical ideas of Paul McCartney. The song was written in McCartney's childhood home at 20 Forthlin Road in Liverpool when McCartney was recovering from the flu .

I'll Follow the Sun was not included in the group's live repertoire in 1964.

First version:

In the spring of 1960, the Beatles, with the cast of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Stuart Sutcliffe, recorded several songs on a tape recorder , including I'll Follow the Sun, in the McCartney family home at 20 Forthlin Road in Liverpool . These are the only known recordings by Stuart Sutcliffe. This recording of I'll Follow the Sun has only been released on Bootleg so far .

Second version:

I'll Follow the Sun was recorded on October 18, 1964 in London's Abbey Road Studios (Studio 2) with producer George Martin . Norman Smith was the sound engineer for the recordings. The band recorded a total of eight takes , with the 8th take also being used for the final version. Six more songs were recorded on October 18, 1964: Kansas City / Hey Hey Hey Hey , I Feel Fine , Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby , Rock and Roll Music , Mr. Moonlight, and Words of Love . In addition, work continued on Eight Days a Week .

The seven songs were recorded between 2:30 pm and 11:30 pm.

The song was mixed on October 21, 1964 in mono and on November 4, 1964 in stereo . The mono version of I'll Follow the Sun has a different mix that has less reverb.

On November 13, 1964, the sixth Beatles album Beatles for Sale was released in Germany , on which I'll Follow the Sun is included. In Great Britain the album was released on December 4, 1964, there it was the fourth Beatles album.

In the USA I'll Follow the Sun was released on December 15, 1964 on the seventh album Beatles '65 there .

In the UK, which was released on June 4, 1965 EP Beatles for Sale (No. 2) , on which also I'll Follow the Sun is.

In June 1965 the single I'll Follow the Sun / I Don't Want to Spoil the Party was released in Norway and Sweden .

For BBC Radio , the Beatles recorded another version of I'll Follow the Sun under live conditions , which was recorded on November 17, 1964 at the Playhouse Theater , London and first appeared on the EP Baby It's You on March 20, 1995 . I'll Follow the Sun was released again on November 11, 2013 on the album On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 .
