About this picture

Kalbe is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the Sittensen municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district with 565 inhabitants.

Place name

The origin of the place name can probably be explained similarly to Kalbe in the Altmark and Calw in Württemberg from the Germanic “kalwa”, Old High German cal (a) wa, Middle High German “kalwe” for “bald spot”, Middle Low German “kalewe” for “baldness” ". The name probably comes from the location of the place on a valley sand island in the lowland of the Oste .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Kalbe
Blazon : "In green above the silver (white) waves flowing from the base on both sides (heraldically correct:" lowered, curved, overturned tip ") a three-arched silver (white) portal with a raised, wider central arch, in the middle of which an upright silver (white) oak leaf . "
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms, approved in 2010, reminds of the community's location in the valley of the Oste with its lowered, curved top . The portal stands for the entrances to the typical six-column houses. The oak leaf stands for nature and at the same time it symbolizes the location of the place in the Ostetal.
