history

Until the church is planted

Markt Kraiburg after an engraving by Michael Wening from 1721

From 1100 to 1259 Kraiburg Castle on the Schlossberg was the seat of the Counts of Kraiburg . In 1259 Kraiburg came to the Wittelsbach family . In 1385 Kraiburg was granted market rights. The market Kraiburg am Inn was a nursing office before 1800 and belonged to the Burghausen Rent Office of the Electorate of Bavaria . Kraiburg had a market court with its own magistrate rights. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

19th to 21st century

Kraiburg received its own station on May 1, 1876 with the opening of the Rosenheim – Mühldorf railway line. However, like the railway line itself, this was built on the opposite, northern side of the Inn from Kraiburg's point of view and is thus around three kilometers from the village. During the Second World War , an armaments factory, the "Kraiburg factory", was founded in the area of the train station and was mostly operated by forced laborers until 1945. From 1946, the village of Waldkraiburg was built on the extensive, now deserted site . The former Kraiburg train station was renamed accordingly. On April 1, 1950, this industrial settlement became an independent municipality, today's town of Waldkraiburg.

In the early to mid-1980s (July 19, 1981 and August 6, 1985), the low-lying part of the local area was affected by several floods. In 1997, a flood dam on both sides of the Inn was therefore completed together with the city of Waldkraiburg . How necessary it was was last shown by the August floods in 2005, when it passed its first practical test.

Incorporations

On February 1, 1935, the Maximilian community (formerly Niederkraiburg) was incorporated into Kraiburg. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Guttenburg was incorporated as part of the regional reform .

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew from 2,889 to 3,999 by 1,110 inhabitants or 38.4%.
