The Weimar-Land district was a district in the Erfurt district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Weimar in the state of Thuringia . Today his area is mainly in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Weimar .

On May 17, 1990 the district was renamed the Weimar district. On July 1, 1994, the district, which had belonged to the rebuilt state of Thuringia since October , was dissolved and assigned to the new district of Weimarer Land .

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs beginning with the letter pairs LX and LY from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was LX 70-01 to LX 99-99 .

At the beginning of 1991, the district and the independent city of Weimar were given the distinguishing mark WE . It was issued in the county until June 30, 1994.
