The Weimar-Land district was a district in the Erfurt district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Weimar in the state of Thuringia . Today his area is mainly in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Weimar .

The Weimar-Land district was in the southeast of the Erfurt district. Its territory is assigned to the Thuringian Basin . Geologically, rocks such as shell limestone and red sandstone were predominant. The highest elevations in the district were:

• the " Riechheimer Berg " in the southwest with 513 meters above sea ​​level
• the "Kötsch" in the south with 497 meters above sea level
• the " Ettersberg " in the north with 478 meters above sea level

The Ilm flowed through the district from Barchfeld in the southwest to Denstedt in the northeast, where it flows into the neighboring district of Apolda.

The Weimar-Land district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Sömmerda , Apolda , Jena-Land , Jena , Rudolstadt , Arnstadt and Erfurt-Land districts . The Weimar district was completely enclosed.

history

On May 17, 1990 the district was renamed the Weimar district. On July 1, 1994, the district, which had belonged to the rebuilt state of Thuringia since October , was dissolved and assigned to the new district of Weimarer Land .

License Plate

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs beginning with the letter pairs LX and LY from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was LX 70-01 to LX 99-99 .

At the beginning of 1991, the district and the independent city of Weimar were given the distinguishing mark WE . It was issued in the county until June 30, 1994.
