League Cup 2010/11

The 2011/12 League Cup was the 52nd edition of the tournament; The Carling Cup , or League Cup . The tournament started with 92 clubs.

The competition started on July 29, 2011 with the preliminary round and ended with the final at Wembley Stadium in London on January 25, 2012. The winner of the competition was Liverpool FC .

Preliminary round

Last year's winner, Birmingham City , who takes part in the championship and is supposed to play in the first round, will only play in the third round, so the new members of the Football League AFC Wimbledon and Crawley Town have to play against each other. For the first time since the 2002/03 season there will be a preliminary round.

First round

The draw for the first round took place on June 16, 2011. The Burnley and Hull City were the only teams from the Football League that went until the second round of the tournament, as they were the top two teams last season. The other 70 teams in the Football League had to compete in the first round.
