The men's 100-meter run at the 2002 European Athletics Championships was held on August 6th and 7th, 2002 in Munich's Olympic Stadium.

European champion was the Portuguese Francis Obikwelu , who two days later took second place over 200 meters . He won ahead of the defending champion Darren Campbell . Bronze went to the Hungarian Roland Németh .

The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.

doping

The original winner, Dwain Chambers , was stripped of the gold medal after a positive doping test in 2003 according to a decision of the IAAF in 2006. The athlete was also banned for two years.The athletes placed below moved up one rank, several sprinters were disadvantaged here:

  • The Portuguese Francis Obikwelu was only allowed to receive the well-deserved gold medal four years after completing the competitions.
  • The Hungarian Roland Németh also received his bronze medal four years late.
  • Troy Douglas , who was eliminated in the semifinals, would have been eligible to start in the final.
  • The Italian Maurizio Checcucci , who was eliminated in the interim, would have been eligible to start in the semi-finals.
  • The Swede Patrik Lövgren , who was eliminated in the preliminary run, would have been eligible to start in the intermediate round .
