The women's 400-meter run at the 1995 World Athletics Championships was held from August 5 to 8, 1995 in Gothenburg's Ullevi Stadium .

It was won by the French Olympic champion from 1992 , world champion from 1991 , reigning European champion and vice European champion from 1990 Marie-José Pérec . Silver went to Pauline Davis from Bahamas . The US defending champion Jearl Miles finished third. She had won gold ( 1993 ) and silver (1991) and silver at the 1992 Olympic Games with her country's four-by-400-meter relay .

The existing World Championship record was missed at these World Championships by 1.29 seconds. Only world champion Marie-José Pérec and vice world champion Pauline Davis stayed below the fifty-second mark.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was carried out in seven runs. The first three athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the three fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the quarter-finals.
