qualification

August 11, 1995, 6:05 pm

49 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 8.05 m. Seven athletes exceeded this mark. The final field was actually filled up with the next placed athletes to twelve jumpers. In this competition there were three athletes with 7.91 m in twelfth place, all of whom had acquired the right to participate in the final. The rule for further differentiation via the second best attempts in each case did not apply to the question of eligibility to participate in the final. So there was a final field with fourteen long jumpers, seven each qualified by fulfilling the set qualification distance (light blue background) or their placement (light green background).
