The women's 100-meter run at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held on August 21 and 22, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
In this competition, the US sprinters achieved a double victory. The world champion was the defending champion Marion Jones , who had also won gold at the 1997 World Championships with her 4 x 100 meter relay . Here in Seville there was bronze in the long jump one day after the sprint success . Second place went to Inger Miller , who won Olympic gold in 1996 as a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay and here five days later became world champion in the 200 meters . Bronze went to the Greek Ekaterini Thanou .

The US world champion Marion Jones improved the existing world championship record twice:

- 10.70 s - final on August 22nd (wind: −0.1 m / s)
In addition, three national records were set:
- 12.30 s - Emma Wade ( Belize ), 6th advance on August 21 (wind: +0.4 m / s)

For Schanna Pintussewytsch it was not enough to win a medal in fourth place - in 1997 she had won the world championship silver in the 100 meters and gold in the 200 meters
At the same time as Shanna Pinusevich, Gail Devers , who was highly decorated at the Olympic Games and World Championships, took fifth place, and six days later she was once again world champion in the 100 m hurdles
The reigning European champion Christine Arron reached sixth place, on the final day she won silver in the French sprint relay
